  • Some of the best lan experiences I have ever had are in SC1 and L4D. With 8 players you can play 4v4 L4D and do epic starcraft/age and honestly those are enough to keep everyone happy through the lan. We mostly ended up playing COD4 and CS:S. You are pretty much limited to FPSs, which gets old after a while. Also most RTS games have a steeper learning curve, so if not everyone is familiar with it the game doesn't work very well. You rule out pretty much every RTS people are familiar with. More than 8 kind of ruins a lot of games. Combine that with networking issues (we had to daisy change switches, some of which were 100mbit) It meant copying gigs of data over "slow" connections. I did my best to distribute the games ahead of time but there are always some people you miss. Sadly it wasn't configured properly so DHCP wasn't working properly and shared folders were not being discovered and we lacked the necessary serial cable to reconfigure it then. We had a guy bring a 32 port rack mount gigabit switch. Click to working issues were the main problem.
